Sothic Rising

The watercolor purple sky tonight
welcomes the dog-star to the horizon.
It is Sirius, celestial bridegroom,
peeking before the ceremonial rites
at his bride, the New Year.
The ethereal hour is struck and
they cross the milky aisle together,
consummating their marriage
in the drying hours before dawn.
They toast pinks to each other
with the rising of the sun;
wishing ta-tas for 1456 years.
