Got a Phrase Stuck in My Head

"This masticating mess of mendicant students, thronging in the thick of things."
One of the many phrases plaguing my thoughts - thwarting my conscience's attempts to actually complete papers and projects. Here's another rather longer idea, manifesting itself in various phrases throughout the day; this is its most recent form:

That girl tosses her hair, yakking:
"She'll look at your shoes and size you up."
I laugh, my cheap, brassy grin too lurid, too leering - it mirrors hers.
Surreptitious, I glance down at my own shoes. They're yellow vinyl.
Cool. Rad.
My eyes flicker to her shoes: gray tweed.
Cool. Rad.
We're cool, yes; rad, yes.
Stupid, yes.

Tomorrow I'm off to the refuge of Spring City. Away from these yakkers and mendicants (nothing against you cool, rad people). "I am half-sick of shadows..." said the Lady of Shallott. As am I, Lady. As am I.
